Input Needed for Community Campus Plan

Bourbonnais, IL - The Village of Bourbonnais is currently making efforts to promote new activity and vitality within our central core, including planning for an enhanced community campus to offer a range of activities and events for both residents and visitors of all ages. To assist in this effort, the Village has commissioned The Lakota Group–an urban planning and landscape architecture consulting firm–to lead a creative planning and visioning process for the Municipal Center and surrounding areas within the center of the community. We are also partnering with you - our residents, businesses, visitors - to help us 'Imagine Bourbonnais'!

Motorists warned to use caution

Bourbonnais, IL - A recent IDOT update confirms the St. George Road overpass may soon be open to traffic as early as the end of next week. The joint project includes the Kankakee County Highway Department and the Vilage of Bourbonnais. It was previously announced the overpass was to be demolished and replaced with a new structure that is both motorist and pedestrian-friendly. The roadway has been closed to traffic since April 2019 with an expectation to reopen in winter 2020. The project is nearing a point where it can be safely opened to traffic.

Record village funds collected for Christmas Shop with a Cop

Bourbonnais, IL - The Village of Bourbonnais is pleased to announce funds collected for the annual 'Change for Children' campaign benefiting the 'Christmas Shop with a Cop' program totaled $3,697.17. This record-breaking amount is a 44% increase over the 2018 funds gathered for the village’s contributions to the county-wide program. The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department hosts 'Christmas Shop with a Cop' in conjunction with the Bourbonnais Police Department and local law enforcement. The 28th annual event is scheduled to take place this Sunday, December 15, 2019.

Give the gift of experience this holiday season

Bourbonnais, IL - The Village of Bourbonnais and Bourbonnais Township Park District announce Chocolate Tour 2020 is scheduled for Saturday, February 1 in the Village of Bourbonnais. The fourth annual event hosted by the Village of Bourbonnais and Bourbonnais Township Park District in conjunction with title sponsor, Sweet Street, will take place from noon to 5:00 p.m. $25 tickets will be available for purchase on Monday, December 2 online at www.btpd.org or in person during business hours at the Bourbonnais Township Park District Perry Farm House and the Village of Bourbonnais Administration Building.

Village of Bourbonnais offices are collecting coins for Christmas Shop with a Cop

Bourbonnais, IL - The Bourbonnais Police Department annually participates in the Kankakee County Sheriff's Department annual Shop with a Cop event. Village of Bourbonnais offices will be collecting donations this month to help provide Kankakee County children with a special Christmas experience.

World's largest booking sharing movement now next to Municipal Center pond

The Little Free Library is located in front of the Bourbonnais Police Department (near the Municipal Center pond). Village officials interview for new community core

Bourbonnais, IL - The Village of Bourbonnais announces it is in the initial stages of what could be the second largest project in village history. With the goal of creating a dynamic and attractive center for community gatherings, the village has interviewed several qualified firms and consultant teams to assist in providing professional planning and design services for the village’s Municipal Campus. The vision is to create a high-quality destination-focused center for residents and visitors to utilize for various seasonal functions and events year around.

Serving and protecting a growing village

Bourbonnais, IL - September 16, 2019, Chief of Police, Jim Phelps, swore-in the newest officer to the Bourbonnais Police Department at the Board of Trustees Meeting. Nikos Fadjich recently graduated police training on August 22, 2019, and joins a force of 26 officers. The Olivet Nazarene University graduate took the oath of office statement to protect and serve the growing Village of Bourbonnais with an estimated 19,500 residents.

Village second-lowest in County for property taxes

Bourbonnais, IL - While Kankakee County's population continues to drop, the Village of Bourbonnais continues to grow. According to a recent U.S. Census Bureau estimate, the Village of Bourbonnais is the only town in Kankakee County seeing an increase in population, up 4.6 percent since 2010, to 19,485. The official 2010 Census population for the village was previously 18,631. 

New 24-hour deposit box available

Bourbonnais, IL - The Village of Bourbonnais recently amended its ordinance regarding the General Discharge Prohibition section of the Municipal Code. This comes as a result of the Kankakee River Metropolitan Agency’s (KRMA) amendment on June 18, 2019 to what may or may not be discharged into the sewers. Ordinance No. 19-2164 includes two new prohibitions on discharges which include: bulk, expired, outdated or concentrated prescription or non-prescription drugs, and hazardous waste pharmaceuticals or DEA controlled substances. In response to these recent revisions, the Bourbonnais Police Department is now providing a larger prescription drop-off box to withhold higher volumes of unused or expired prescription medications for safe disposal.
