Unfortunately the use of abrasives creates issues with storm water sedimentation and degradation, and would obstruct storm water sewers. Abrasives can also cause problems if carried indoors on shoes and boots. Abrasives do not melt snow and ice and are not as effective at providing safe winter roadways in comparison to the use of salt.
