Feb 1-7 Proclaimed as Scout Week

Bourbonnais, IL – At the Village of Bourbonnais Board Meeting held on Monday, February 2, 2026, village officials proclaimed February 1 through February 7 as ’Scout Week’. As a part of ‘Scout Week’, the Village of Bourbonnais hosted ‘Scout Day’ – an event welcoming Scouts to experience a day in the life of local government.

Nationally, Boy Scout Anniversary Week takes place in the first week of February each year. The holiday helps to raise awareness for the Boy Scouts of America (B.S.A.) organization and shows appreciation for their efforts.

Five members of the Rainbow Council, of which Cub Scout Pack 324 and Boy Scout Troop 324 are currently chartered, learned firsthand how the village operates and what each officials’ responsibilities were.

After touring facilities including Village Hall, the Bourbonnais Police Department, the Bourbonnais Public Works Department and the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, they were tasked with working on an improvement project, which included Safety Town at the Children’s Safety Center. The Scouts proposed their findings to the Village Board at Monday’s meeting among a full room of spectators.

The village would like to thank the following Scouts for their participation:

  • Josiah Fish
  • Hudson Lacher
  • Kaden Ramirez
  • Isaac Rosenberger
  • Nehemiah Rosenberger

“The village is proud to continue to support scouting and its mission to build character, conduct, patriotism and service,” stated Bourbonnais Mayor, Jeff Keast.

“This was my first year participating as mayor and experiencing the event alongside the Scouts. I look forward to seeing them grow and succeed as future community members. Thank you to Deputy Chief of Police, Jason Sztuba, for organizing this year’s event!”

The Rainbow Council of the Boy Scouts of America includes 160 Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Explorer Posts in Kankakee, Will and Grundy Counties. There are approximately 4,500 youth members in the Rainbow Council, of which Cub Scout Pack 324 – chartered in 1954, and Boy Scout Troop 324 – chartered in 1958, are currently chartered by the citizens in the Village of Bourbonnais.
