Riverfront Park online survey now available
The Village of Bourbonnais continues to engage residents in the second round of public input for the Riverfront Park Master Planning process. Following a recent in-person open house attended by approximately 50 residents, the Village has launched an online survey for community members who were unable to attend.
The survey includes highlights from the first round of engagement in 2024, information about the 6.6-acre park expansion and details on a grant secured by Senator Patrick Joyce to enhance this unique outdoor space. The survey will remain open through October 31, 2025, and is available at villageofbourbonnais.com or directly here.
In January 2024, Village officials hosted the first public workshop inviting residents to share their ideas for Riverfront Park—one of Bourbonnais’ largest premier parks, located along the Kankakee River at 1200 Canterbury Lane. Untouched for more than 20 years, Riverfront Park is the latest focus of the Imagine Bourbonnais initiative, which encourages community participation in shaping the village’s future.
The master planning process is being led by Kimley-Horn and Associates, an engineering, planning, and design consulting firm that also assisted with the Village’s phased Wayfinding Signage Program.
“Community input is essential as we plan for the next generation of parks and open spaces,” said Mayor Jeff Keast. “This process ensures that residents’ voices help guide how parks evolve to meet the community’s needs.”
Riverfront Park is one of 24 parks maintained by the Village and one of two located along the Kankakee River. Current amenities include benches, biking and walking trails, fitness equipment, fishing access, frisbee golf, a grill, a historic pavilion, picnic tables, a seasonal restroom and a Little Free Library.
