This includes, but is not limited to repairing potholes, resurfacing of streets, and repairing curbs and public sidewalks. Snow Plowing/Street Cleaning In addition to street maintenance, the Bourbonnais Public Works Department is also responsible for the removal of snow from the streets throughout the Village. During the winter months, members of the Department are available on a 24-hour basis to ensure the timely removal of snow and/or placement of salt, as conditions warrant. To ensure maximum benefit to all residents, main streets and arteries, such as Route 45/52, Route 102, and Armour Road/Latham Drive, are the first priority for snow removal and salting, followed by collector streets, residential streets and cul de sacs. The Bourbonnais Public Works Department, along with the Bourbonnais Police Department have available Doppler radar terminals to allow for tracking of winter storms. Residents can assist in the snow removal program by following the following guidelines: According to Village ordinances, no motor vehicle may be parked or allowed to remain parked on a Village Street after a snowfall or three or more inches. Once the streets have been cleared “curb-to-curb”, the residents may return their vehicles to the street for parking. Any vehicle in violation of this ordinance shall be considered a traffic hazard, and will be removed by an authorized towing company. The owner of the vehicle will be responsible for payment of the towing fee and a fine will also be imposed. The Village does not service private properties. Names of snow removal contractors are contained in the local phone book directories. All residents and property owners are
reminded that it is against Village ordinances to dump snow onto public
streets. All signs for Village Streets, and many of the public signs throughout the Village are made in the Bourbonnais sign shop, and installed by members of the Public Works Department
Christmas Tree Pick Up The Bourbonnais Public Works Department also assists homeowners in the collection of post holiday Christmas trees. Sorry, artificial trees are not acceptable. Since everyone takes down their trees at different times, residents are asked to take the tree to the nearest park. Before taking the tree to the park, residents are asked to remove all lights, wires, ornaments, tinsel and other decorations. The Department converts the trees into mulch, which is then used through the Village parks.
The Village of Bourbonnais has contracted with ABC Disposal Co. to collect household waste, recycling materials and yard waste from all single-family residences within the Village. Households are billed directly by ABC Disposal for this service. Household Waste: Waste is collected once a week. Residents are limited to up to 90 gallons of household waste per week. Overage bags may be purchased at local retailers for household waste in excess of 90 gallons. All trash must be place at the curb by 7:00 AM on the scheduled pick up day. Bulk Items: ABC will pick up a total of two bulk items per month, such as couches, chairs, mattresses, bikes, swings and non-freon bearing items. Construction debris and freon bearing appliances are not considered bulk items, and residents are asked to arrange for pick up of these items at their own expense. Recycling: Recycling bags are provided free to residents upon display of a paid ABC Disposal bill. Recycling bags may be obtained at the Bourbonnais Public Works Department as well as local retailers throughout the community. Recycling materials are collected on the same days as the resident’s household waste is collected. The following items may be mixed together in one bag: glass (rinsed beverage bottles and jars), Plastic (rinsed milk containers, soft drink containers and plastic laundry detergent containers) and Cans (rinsed aluminum and steel). A separate bag should be used to hold newspapers and magazines. Yard
Waste Special yard Waste bags may be purchased at local retailers throughout the community. Allowable yard waste includes grass clippings and leaves, but does not include tree branches, roots, and other landscape materials. Yard waste is collected every Monday from April 15th through November 15th. |
